OPENING THE DOORS OF THE LABORATORY

It was now up to adults to see what is done in the HERCULES laboratory at the University of Évora, Portugal. On the 20th, Laboratório Hercules opened its doors to the public at the IMATERIAL festival which is taking place in the city of Évora from the 19th to the 27th of May. Guided by José Mirão and Nick Shiavon, visitors with different backgrounds had the opportunity to get to know the facilities and eight laboratory researchers who explained their ongoing projects. Among them, the ALMADA project presented by Milene Gil, which showed what is being investigated and its relevance to the technical history of art and conservation and restoration. 'More than ever, researchers must play an active role in involving the public in what they do, how they do it and why it's important' stressed Milene Gil. This aspect is crucial for Heritage awareness and that everyone counts and can have a say. And that's what happened on this sunny Saturday afternoon. Here's to other afternoons like this one.
