Embracing the mural painting work of Gilda Neuberger (1911-2011)

From September 2nd to 16th, 2023, another on-site scientific campaign of project ALMADA took place, this time focusing on the art of mural painting by Gilda Neuberger (1911-2011), an illustrious Brazilian artist of the modernist generation in Brazil. Her only mural surviving in the city of Rio de Janeiro and entitled 'Homage to workers' was the first work to be studied. Five fresco and 'faux-fresco' works on movable supports were the next to be analysed at the apartment of the artist daughter(Hilda Neuberger) in São Paulo. This research is the subject of Glaucia Wenzeller's doctorate and it was integrated into ALMADA project framework, taking into account the similarities and differences with the artwork of Almada Negreiros. This investigation also counts on the partnership of Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz, Rio de Janeiro) and USP (São Paulo).
Curious? Keep an eye out for the next project newsletter ;-)
