To know

The Documentation and archive center of APL

The cover photo of Newsletter 4, which portrays the waiting room of the Maritime station of Alcântara in 1958, is one of the documents that can be consulted among the 100 photographic records of the historical collection on the theme of the Maritime stations existing in the Documentation and Archive of the Administration of the Port of Lisbon (CDA-APL). Alongside these records, the images of the construction of the stations and of arrivals and departures over the years enrich the collection.
But this is not the only document type out there. In monographs and articles, emphasis is given to the Maritime stations and their history, the originality and simplicity that marked the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Maritime station of Alcântara, inaugurated on July 17, 1943, also at that time without the pomp and characteristic circumstance of these events; Also noteworthy is the movement at these maritime stations in the port of Lisbon, namely that of the packet-boats expected in March 1953. Also worthy of mention are the emblematic brochures depicting the life and work of Almada Negreiros, with a description of the murals of the two Maritime Stations.
In the cartographic archive there are about 200 drawings, referring to the location for the construction of the stations, drawings of the initial project, as well as plans, sections, and profiles. It is also possible to virtually visit the emblematic Almada Negreiros Panels at the maritime stations at: https://www.portodelisboa.pt/pt/visita-virtual-gares
Through its online catalogue, APL, S.A. make available to users the existing documentary funds in the Archive and Library, now more accessible to those who want to know and study the history of the Port of Lisbon, the City and the Country, going beyond the basic functions of an archive, reaching, not only and preservation of collections, but also a greater objective, translated into easier accessibility and availability for use by all.

And now specially for children

Lets investigate?
Almada Negreiros's art touches many audiences. In the painting known as Planisphere (or Mapa-Mundi), the imagination and richness in detail seem to be directed at the younger audiences, trusting their limitless curiosity will guide them through the discovery process. Assumed as a disseminator of the artist's work, the Almada Project could not take this purpose lightly. Here is a sneak peek of what we are planning. Click here.
