This was the last campaign of 2023 for the ALMADA project: a partnership with the Conservation and Restoration Department of the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia, Spain.
It was three days of intense activity to learn more about the modus operant of José Bellver - a Valencian artist contemporary of Almada Negreiros - which has decorated a series of public and religious buildings in post-war Spain.
The paintings under analysis were painted between 1941 and 1942 in the main altar of the church of Santa Cruz in Valencia and have the particularity of having been created using potassium silicate as a binder in an experimental way.
The research team consisted of Luís Dias and Milene Gil from Laboratório Hércules; Mercedes Sanchez Póns and Duccio from the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia.
It was well worth the 10 hour journey from Évora to Valencia and Évora. The results will be released in the future.
