[ 2nd Edition of the Hand’s on Workshop on Heritage Sciences at BE Patrício Prazeres School: the last two mural paintings by Almada Negreiros]
De 17 a 27 de Agosto decorreu na Escola BE Patrício Prazeres, em Lisboa, a segunda edição do workshop hand’s on em Ciências do Património no âmbito do projeto ALMADA. Desta vez estiveram em foco as duas últimas pinturas murais realizadas por Almada em 1956, intituladas Aula de Geografia e Aula de Ginástica. Os objetivos da investigação levada a cabo foram o apuramento da técnica pictórica e dos materiais empregues e o averiguar de possíveis variações para com as produções murais anteriores. Os dados recolhidos durante as duas semanas em campo com técnicas convencionais e avançadas de exame de área e de ponto irão ser alvo de analise nos próximos meses. Pela primeira vez, foram experimentados dois scanners 3D para testar as possibilidades de deteção e distinção de texturas das camadas cromáticas. Esta experiência feita por Marius Araújo do Arteria Lab da Universidade de Évora abre as portas a novas vias de exploração da superfície de uma pintura mural.

From the 17th to the 27th of August, the second edition of the hand’s on workshop in Heritage Sciences took place at the BE Patrício Prazeres School, in Lisbon, within the scope of the ALMADA project. This time, the focus was on the last two mural paintings made by Almada in 1956, entitled Geography Class and Gymnastics Class. The objectives of the research carried out were to refine the pictorial technique and the materials used and to investigate possible variations in relation to previous mural productions. The data collected during the two weeks in the field with conventional and advanced techniques of area and point examination will be analyzed in the coming months. For the first time, two 3D scanners were tried out to test the possibilities of detecting and distinguishing the textures of chromatic layers. This experiment carried out by Marius Araújo from the Arteria Lab of the University of Évora opens the door to new ways of exploring the surface of a mural painting
